Aida Dance
Latin dance shoe
designed by Kevin Baten
Starting with four different color stories for Kevin Baten’s dance shoe. I took inspiration for each story from different aspects of the consumer Ashely’s life. The final three color stories took inspiration from Ashely’s love of her Cuban heritage, Her relaxing morning routine before she starts her day as a professional dancer, and finally Ashely taking her few off days to enjoy the outdoors that surround her in Los Angles.

In almost all forms of dance it is important to have a nude colored base shoe for both competitions and practice. I felt it would be a fun ironic twist to pull the neutral tones out of theses beautiful examples of Cuban culture.
Much of Ashely’s day is taken up with dance, so her morning routine is very important to her. Having such a busy life being able to take time and slow down is key. The shown “Morning Routine” colorway has some noticeable differences from the final shoe. In the final iterations of the design process the shoe desinger Kevin wanted to try a deep pink rather than a purple. We sat down together and worked through some different color choices, finally landing on the pink that can be seen on the final shoe.
As a professional dancer Ashely gets the opportunity to travel all over the world for different competitions. SO when given down time she takes that time to do some exploring, especially if that exploring includes either the ocean or hiking.
